Mail app on iPhone and iPad is famous for having a huge count of unread email as a number on the application icon. It is shown in white color inside a red circular dot. This number is called ‘badges.’ These badges are a part of the notification system. You can disable or enable them from the settings.
So, if you find that the red badge is annoying or disturbing the aesthetics of the homescreen or iPhone dock, let’s learn to disable it.
Stop Apps from Opening Automatically on Mac Using Settings. In case the App which is opening automatically during startup is not located on the Dock of your Mac, you will need to go into the Settings Menu of your Mac to disable such apps. Click on the Apple Menu icon in the top menu bar on your Mac and then click on System Preferences in the. Click on “ Users & Groups ” and select the user from the left bar for whom you need disable startup programs. Switch to the “ Login Items ” tab. Here, you should see all the apps that are configured to start automatically with your Mac. Select the apps that you want to disable and click on the “ — ” symbol.

How to Turn Off Unread Email Count Badge on iPhone or iPad in iOS 13
- Open the Settings app on your iPhone or iPad
- Tap on Notifications.
- Scroll down and tap on Mail.
- Tap on an account.
- Turn off the toggle for Badges.
If you have multiple email accounts set up on your device, tap on <Mail from the top left corner. Now, repeat the process for other accounts.
You will see that the red number dot on the Mail app is hidden.
The process for any other email app like Gmail, Outlook, Yahoo, is the same. All you have to do is to find the app in Notifications settings and then turn off Badges for it.
You will still receive emails depending on the Push/Fetch schedule that you have set. You will also get alerts as Banner notifications or on the lock screen, depending on how you have configured that. But you’ll never see the red badge.

Add an email account
If you haven't already set up an email account in Mail, you might be prompted to add one when you open the app. If you're not prompted, or you just want to add another account, follow these steps:
- From the menu bar in Mail, choose Mail > Add Account.
- Select your email provider from the list, then click Continue.
- Some accounts, such as Google, might ask that you click Open Browser to complete authentication in your web browser.
- Follow the onscreen instructions to enter account details, such as your name, email address, and password. If you're not sure what information to enter, please contact your email provider for help.
